Why Slonina Photography Tours & Workshops

Meet John Slonina, a full-time professional nature photographer, research enthusiast, and an expert of North America’s national parks. With over three decades of extensive experience, he has not only been leading photo tours and workshops but has also been a prolific speaker on the art of nature photography.

Unlike other tours where photography is just one small part of the package, our trips are all about putting photography right at the heart of the adventure. We carefully select optimal spots for capturing dramatic photos, spanning from renowned iconic sites to those cool hidden gems that aren’t on everyone’s radar.

Why Choose Slonina Photography?

LOCATION
You will be in the ultimate place at the perfect moment. Our aim? Making sure you capture those incredible shots right where you stand. We pick visually stunning spots, giving you top-notch photo opportunities with fantastic backdrops.

TIMING
We time our tours just right for each spot on the map. We constantly monitor things like seasonal happenings, weather challenges, tidal activity, vibrant fall colors, wildlife migration reports, and that magical light that makes photos pop.

WELL-PLANNED ITINERARY
Our itinerary balances exploration and photography, giving you ample time to capture incredible shots while enjoying the experience. Leave the logistics to us—we’ll handle every detail so you can focus on what you love most: creating amazing images.

EXPERT GUIDES
We are here to support you every step of the way, whether it’s mastering composition, perfecting lighting, or fine-tuning camera settings. Whatever you need assistance with, we are dedicated to helping you capture the perfect shot. Additionally, we will provide you with valuable insights into wildlife behavior and the natural history of our tour locations. Your excitement is what drives us, and ensuring your satisfaction is our main focus.

GROUP SIZE
We keep our group sizes small to ensure everyone receives personalized guidance and attention. Group sizes vary by tour, creating an ideal environment to learn, connect, and focus on your photography with expert support throughout.

BETTER ACCESS
We travel in one or two vehicles which allows us to roam into off-the-grid spots for prime shots. Our small group is not just about convenience—it is about getting you closer to the action. Larger groups tend to spook wildlife, but our size lets us sneak up without causing a stir.

SUPPORT
Whether you are new to photography or a seasoned professional, our tours are open to all. We are all about teamwork and gaining insights from fellow photographers. Our goal? To help you level up your skills, polish those techniques, and even pick up a few new tricks along the way. We are here for your questions and to offer guidance and support.

HAVING FUN
In our workshops, capturing nature through the lens is as much about hanging out together as it is about the photos. Our emphasis lies in cultivating meaningful friendships and fostering a sense of kinship among participants. Our remarkable rate of repeat attendees speaks volumes about our commitment to delivering the utmost satisfaction to our valued customers.

John works very hard to make sure to put you in front of numerous birds, gators, landscapes, etc. in order for you to capture amazing images. His knowledge of particular nesting locations is endless. Want a bald eagle nest? John knows where they are. Problems at one location? Not for John as he has numerous backup locations. Can’t say enough good things. His instruction for new and seasoned photographers is great too. He gives 100% plus on the tours. If you want a tour full of shooting, take one of John’s tours. Fun guy to hang out with.
